I’m Wesley Tate, owner of Heaven’s Moving. Specialty moving is the work I trust to one specific crew, led by my chief Jamal, because a piano or a loaded gun safe is unforgiving of guesswork. I started this company in 2015, and the items that scare people most — the upright on the stoop, the grand in the parlor, the safe in the basement — are the ones we plan most carefully and price most clearly.
From a Fan District rowhouse to a Short Pump colonial, Heaven’s Moving writes the whole job as one flat number up front and holds it — no surprise lines once the truck is loaded.
Richmond is a hard town for heavy pieces
The Fan’s steep original stairs and narrow stoops, Church Hill’s tall rowhouses, and the deep full basements out in the West End and Short Pump are exactly where heavy specialty pieces get stuck or dropped by crews who improvise. We don’t improvise. We bring piano boards, skid plates, four-wheel dollies, and real rigging straps, and we walk pianos up and down stairs with technique, not brute force.
The difference shows up on the hardest carries. Getting an upright down a steep Fan stoop, or a seven-hundred-pound gun safe up the half-turn of a basement stair in a West End colonial, is a planned sequence — where the straps anchor, who holds the low end, how the piece pivots through the door. Jamal’s crew walks it before they lift it. We price the specialty piece on its own line, flat, so the riskiest item in your house is never the one running an hourly clock.
