Common questions about moving with us
After years of moving Greater Richmond, the same questions come up again and again — about pricing, licensing, stairs, and weather. Here are the honest answers, the same ones I’d give you on the phone. If yours isn’t here, get my free moving quote or call our office and we’ll walk through it.
Are you a moving company?
Yes — Heaven's Moving is a fully licensed and insured Greater Richmond moving company running our own trucks and uniformed crews, with US DOT and MC authority and Virginia intrastate moving registration. We are not a broker, a matching service, or a referral network. The crew you book is our own W-2 staff.
How does your flat-rate pricing work?
We look at your inventory and access, then put a binding flat rate in writing before we load. That number is what you pay — no hourly surprises at the end of the day. For smaller jobs we also offer straight hourly: $139/hr for two movers and a truck, $189/hr for three movers and a truck, with blankets, dollies, and shrink-wrap included.
Do you move the Fan District rowhouses and historic homes?
Constantly. The steep original stairs, narrow doorways, stoops, and on-street parking of the Fan, Church Hill, and Jackson Ward are part of our everyday work. We send a crew chief who runs stairs-and-stoops jobs all week, and we plan the load and parking before we arrive so the day doesn't drag.
Are you licensed and insured?
Yes. We hold US DOT and MC authority for interstate moves plus Virginia intrastate moving registration, and we carry our own cargo and liability insurance. Standard released-value coverage is $0.60 per pound, full-value protection is available, and we carry up to $1,000,000 in cargo coverage per shipment. We provide certificates of insurance for buildings that require them — just ask Brianna in the office.
How far ahead should I book?
For a weekday move two to three weeks out is usually plenty. Month-end and the first of the month book fast around here — that's when leases turn over and VCU students move — so if you need a Saturday or a turn-of-the-month date, reach out as early as you can.
Do you do long-distance moves out of Richmond?
Yes, and we drive them ourselves. The same crew that loads you in Richmond unloads you at the other end — we don't hand your shipment off to a carrier we found through a broker. We run regular routes up and down I-95 and I-85, from DC and Baltimore to Charlotte, Raleigh, Atlanta, and beyond.
What about packing?
We can pack as much or as little as you want — the whole house, just the kitchen and the breakables, or nothing at all if you'd rather box it yourself. Our full-pack crews bring the materials, and we can unpack on the other end so you're not living out of boxes for a week.
Can you move my piano, gun safe, or other heavy specialty items?
Yes. Jamal Brooks leads our specialty work — uprights, baby grands, gun safes, gym equipment, and oversized antiques. We bring the right equipment and the right number of hands, and we figure out the stairs and doorways before we touch the piece.
Do you move in winter weather?
We work all four seasons. When Central Virginia gets an ice storm or snow that shuts the hills, safety comes first and we'll reschedule if the roads aren't drivable. On a normal cold or wet day we lay heavy floor protection against salt, snow, and red-clay mud and keep the stoops and stairs clear.
What areas do you serve?
All of Greater Richmond — the city itself plus Henrico, Chesterfield, Hanover, Goochland, and Powhatan counties, and suburbs from Short Pump and Glen Allen to Midlothian, Chester, Mechanicsville, Ashland, Bon Air, and down to Petersburg. For long-distance work we move out of the whole Richmond region.
